Germ-a-Phobe

Tyler and I have discovered a gem. While we promised ourselves we would never become one of "those" newly married couples who spend their evenings watching movies and TV series on DVD, I'm afraid, to an extent, we have. Luckily we're too shrewd with our money to subscribe to Netflix or the likes thereof and become entirely hermetic, but we have resorted ourselves to our newly found love, a love that will most certainly give our our first born a run for his/her money. Yes, we have unearthed a $2 movie theater in Sugar House. Last week we went and saw Mighty Macs (one I personally found inspiring and empowering for women athletes, while Tyler found the basketball coach's style a little far-fetched). And this week, we decided to go and partake of an experience that would force us to never, for the rest of our little lives, leave the confines of our home again.

Contagion.

I suppose this movie did what it was supposed to if I felt compelled to clean out Wal-Mart's current supply of waterless hand-sanitizer afterwards. In a nutshell, it was about a disease, not that much different from the bird flu, that runs rampant on the earth and (SPOILER ALERT) kills at least 2.7 million people before a vaccine is eventually discovered. Meanwhile, the whole country is in uproar as cities are quarantined, grocery stores are looted, pharmacies trashed, and ultimately homes broken into and people shot for their food. The scariest thing of this movie was not the somewhat graphic deaths, or the sometimes eerie music. It was the fact that it could actually HAPPEN. Did I mention I hate movies like that??

Anyway, Matt Damon looked like an old fart, Gwyneth Paltrow was barely in it, Jude Law had cracked and crooked teeth totally defeating any purpose of watching a movie with him in it, and Tyler and I decided we are moving to the mountains where we will build up an arsenal of food storage and ammo.

If in the future this, or something similar, should occur, the select few who frequent this blog will be invited to our housewarming party in the hills. Please bring your own lysol wipes. And no breathing allowed.
